குடியென்னும் குன்றா விளக்கம் மடியென்னு
மாசூர மாய்ந்து கெடும்.
ஒருவனுடைய பெருமை, மங்காத விளக்கு போன்றது. அது சோம்பல் என்னும் மாசு படியப் படிய ஒளி மங்கிக் கடைசியில் அழிந்துவிடும்.

वंश नामक कभी न बुझने वाला दीपक,
आलस्य रूपी मैल से ढककर बुझ जाता है।
किसी के कुल का दीपक, जो कभी नहीं बुझता, आलस्य रूपी अंधकार से ढँककर नष्ट हो जाता है।
English
The lamp of noble birth, if sloth's foul shade obscure,
Will pale and all its pristine light obscured.
The flawless light of family greatness is extinguished when the darkness of slothfulness covers it.
